#40 The Other Big Baldwin

Due to P&WVs close relationship with the Baldwin Locomotive Works, it was not surprising that they would purchase and test a Baldwin road switcher for their roster. This engines place on the roster was the shortest of all diesel power on the P&WV. It ran on the P&WV rails from 1951 to 1956. The reasons for this were; Maintenance and parts costs were high. It could not MU with any of the FM units and because of its six wheel truck design it had difficulty operating over the curves and topography of the P&WV. Because of this it was assigned exclusively to the Connellsville Division as a local road switcher.
